Jim Leslie was a middle school and high school English and social studies teacher in the Roseville School District for thirty-four years. Since his retirement from teaching in 2004, Jim has devoted himself to development work (teacher training) in Ghana and in Sierra Leone and service work in Minnesota’s large West African immigrant community. As a volunteer for the Twin Cities based OneVillage Partners, Jim made trips in 2007 and 2010 to that organization’s sites in the Kailahun District where he observed teachers, evaluated schools, and taught while being observed by the local teachers. Jim has also served on the executive board of the Sierra Leone Community in Minnesota (SLCM) for the past eight years. For his work in the Sierra Leonean immigrant community, last year Jim received a service award from a different Sierra Leonean immigrant association (Sierrasota).
