Last January, Gondama Community Health Center (CHC) located 12 miles from Tikonko Town received a visit by Rev. Dr. Neil Craigan, RHCI Board Member. Bringing back word of the critical needs in Gondama, Craigan encouraged RHCI to consider expanding services to this new region of the chiefdom.
The Gondama Task Force (an RHCI work group) has been meeting in Minnesota since June to develop plans. In parallel, our in-country staff director Manley Jongopie has met with Gondama leaders and health center staff multiple times. They have shown much enthusiasm for partnering with RHCI to improve health services in their chiefdom. Plans are in place to begin an RHCI/Gondama CHC Outreach Motorbike Clinic to bring health care to remote villages in their area.
A grant proposal has been submitted for funding to rehabilitate the Birth Waiting Home in Gondama that was abandoned by Doctors Without Borders in 2015. Pending funding, RHCI in collaboration with the Gondama CHC staff anticipate the reopening of the Birth Waiting Home.
RHCI is excited about this expansion of our mission into another region of the Tikonko Chiefdom. This is the realization of our strategic plans made over the past several years.
