Francis Bengali, SACHO

For the past 10 years, RHCI has partnered with Francis Bangali, SACHO (Surgical Assistant Community Health Officer), in the care of children with complex medical needs. RHCI regularly refers critically ill pediatric patients to Francis, including children requiring urgent surgical care.

This past year, Francis shared the following story with us. We are honored to feature it on our website in his own words, with only minor editing.

RHCI (Rural Health Care Initiative) is dedicated to transforming the lives of vulnerable children and pregnant  women through critical medical interventions. Their commitment to providing advanced medical services is exemplified in their recent outreach efforts in July 2025, where they saved the lives of three children in  surgical need.

One particularly touching case involved an eight  -years-old boy who was brought to our outpatient department with an incarcerated inguinal hernia. He had endured this painful condition for three hours, and thanks to the swift actions of the RHCI team, emergency surgery was performed without delay. By Medical/Surgical team of Dasse Medical Advanced Medical Services Hospital in Bo southern  Sierra Leone.

Diagnosis: Incarcerated inguinal hernia, a condition that can lead to serious complications if not treated promptly.

Surgery: The surgical team acted quickly to relieve the boy’s suffering, restoring not only his health but also his family’s peace of mind.

Impact on Families

The successful surgery brought immense joy and gratitude to the boy’s parents, reflecting the profound emotional impact that RHCI’s work has in the community. Such interventions not only save lives but also uplift families, creating ripples of happiness throughout the community.

Conclusion

RHCI’s dedication to children’s health is commendable, and their remarkable work continues to make a tangible difference in the lives of those they serve. Through outreach efforts and skilled medical interventions, they are not just saving lives; they are restoring hope and joy to families in need.
