As the Head Nurse for RHCI, holding her Advanced Nursing degree, Juliana is one of RHCI’s veteran staff members. She has been with RHCI since opening the doors to our Mbao-mi Birth Waiting Home in January 2018, arriving one month prior to assist in preparing the Home for our first beneficiaries. Juliana’s duties include 24-hour medical coverage, caring for and monitoring expecting mothers around the clock.

“My duty is to make sure that all the patients that come to our facility are well taken care of and document their information properly.” Juliana states, “I give them health education on family planning, nutrition, personal hygiene, proper breastfeeding and how to empower themselves. We also give them their vitamins, and make sure they eat a well balanced diet and have exercises to keep them fit. We work in collaboration with the CHC (Community Health Center) to monitor that they (expecting mothers) have safe deliveries and also work with the other Birth Waiting Homes in Gondama, Kassama and Sembehum.
To be frank enough I enjoy doing all the activities because these are our people and they are vulnerable. So, to make them happy has been a joy to me and teaching them to know what they do not yet know.”

When Juliana is not at the Home, you can find her at one of our Mobile Outreach Clinics, providing medical care for mothers and children in rural, hard to reach villages, where healthcare is hard to reach. For over a year now, Juliana has implemented and expanded our Family Planning program, as it is one of her areas of expertise.
Juliana constantly finds creative ways to teach mothers about reproductive health, maternal health and postpartum care. She puts the needs of the mothers above all and is a key player in what makes the Birth Waiting Home a safe place for pregnant mothers.
