RHCI’s mission of partnering with the community and Ministry of Health and Sanitation continues with the assignment of two midwives to the Mbao-mi Mothers’ Home and the Tikonko Community Health Center.  Assigned by the local District Medical Officer, Dr. Turay, to serve in Tikonko, Marion and Hawa are dividing their time between the Mothers’ Home and the Health Center, where they are attending deliveries.  Both are fully educated nurse midwives, with three years of Midwife School in Makeni, Sierra Leone.  Having access to skilled care at childbirth greatly improves the outcomes for both mother and baby, and decreases morbidity and mortality.

Hawa and Marion requested a new Midwife Kit to be able to perform their work more effectively.  Thank you to everyone, especially First Presbyterian Church of White Bear Lake, and Global Health Ministries, and others for the donations to completing the Midwife Kit which will be shipped at the end of June to Sierra Leone.
