Since opening in January, the Home has served more than 90 women and newborns. The addition of two midwives from the Ministry of Health and Sanitation has enhanced the quality of care available to the pregnant and lactating women and their new babies
A new activity called “Gara dying” has been introduced. The plain sheets are being transformed into colorful works of art (see picture). The sewing room buzzes with activity of the two sewing machines available for everyone to learn how to use.
A garage was built, with secure metal doors, to house the Toyota Hilux and motorbike overnight or when not in use. Plans are underway to serve a meal and provide an educational class weekly to local pregnant women who do not stay at the home. Back in Minnesota, the monitoring and evaluation system is being developed to provide reports on RHCI’s outcomes and impact in the Tikonko Chiefdom.
