The November 1st virtual fall fundraiser, Furthering Our Focus: Nourishing Moms and Children, shared the story of RHCI’s work and our increased focus on malnutrition in young children.  Featured as an “Evening in Africa,” the videos included music and dancing from Sierra Leone, and many pictures including beautiful scenery, the people of Tikonko Chiefdom and RHCI’s operations.

Hosted by local broadcaster and journalist Kevyn Burger, the program began with a passionate message from RHCI founder Alice Karpeh with her deep gratitude for all the supporters. Heartbreaking stories about malnourished children were shared by recent RHCI volunteers who traveled to Sierra Leone in January 2020. In a video from Tikonko, Nutritionist Umu Shour discussed her work with malnourished children and how she always wanted to help the children. Everyone participating in the event learned about RUTF (Ready to Use Therapeutic Food) and other components of Umu’s work.

Thank you to the volunteer event committee, particularly  Maggie Pilacinski, Kevyn Burger and Len Pattky (see picture below).  We are also grateful for the superb work of Steve Goranson, videographer, and to True Visions Financial Services (Darin Pilacinski) for the use of their office in Woodbury for the event production.

With over 150 registered for the event, the goal of raising $50,000 is close to being met.  Matching grant funds are still available through November for donors signing up for recurring donations.  Click on the donate button on the home page to be a partner in this life-saving work.
