Midwife Kits From Direct Relief Have Arrived

By August 13, 2021September 1st, 2021No Comments

Arriving in July at the Lungi Airport (Freetown) were 4 Midwife Kits and 4 replacement kits designated for Rural Health Care Initiative in the Tikonko Chiefdom.  Donated by Direct Relief, each kit contains the supplies and equipment needed for 50 deliveries (400 total).  RHCI submitted the application for these much needed supplies last fall.

The Midwife Kits will be delivered to the Tikonko and Gondama Community Health Centers, to be used by the licensed midwives during labor and delivery.  RHCI covered the costs at the port of entry, and transportation to Tikonko.  Thank you to In-country director Manley Jongopie and his staff for successfully clearing this shipment at the port of entry.

Contents of the midwife kits:  Medications needed to prevent or treat hemorrhage, antibiotics, IV supplies, instruments such as umbilical cord scissors, suture materials, gloves, gowns, disposable items and much more.  The value of these kits is approximately $6000.

Direct Relief is a humanitarian aid organization, active in all 50 states and more than 80 countries, with a mission to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies – without regard to politics, religion, or ability to pay.

RHCI is grateful to Direct Relief for providing these essential supplies that are often out of stock or unavailable at the health centers with which we partner.  Thank you, Direct Relief and your supporters for your generosity.
