Christopher Foday Samking, age 36, tragically passed away on April 12, 2026, following an accident while working on an electrical pole in a village near Tikonko.

At the time of his death, he was employed by Rural Health Care Initiative (RHCI) as a motorbike rider for the Newborn Home Visit Program in the Gondama area. His untimely passing did not occur during the course of his RHCI duties.

Christopher leaves behind his wife and five children, ages 4 to 17. He was also among the dedicated laborers who worked under harsh conditions to build the
Mbao-mi Mothers’ Home in Tikonko from the ground up in 2016–2017, including digging wells and making bricks.

Christopher was widely known in Tikonko as a youth leader with a warm, energetic, and friendly personality. Dr. Nelson recalls his leadership of a Saturday youth clean-up day in 2015 during her visit for a CHW training. Dr. Gary Johnson also worked with him during the construction of the first Birth Waiting Home.

Christopher had many friends among RHCI staff and will be deeply
missed. His passing is a painful reminder of how fragile life can be, particularly in Sierra Leone, where access to medical care is limited and safety challenges remain significant. Christopher’s death marks the first loss of an RHCI staff member since the organization began operations in 2015.

The entire RHCI community, including the Board of Directors and all full-time and part-time staff, mourns his loss.

May his soul rest in peace.
