Below are scenes from the two-day training that took place at the new Birth Waiting home facility on January 8-9, 2018. This training was facilitated by RHCI in collaboration with staff from World Hope International, based in Makeni, Sierra Leone. During the two days, 53 health care staff were taught skills in resuscitation of the newborn, and essential care for the newborn during the first day and week of life. Neonatal mortality is high in Sierra Leone. These classes, developed by the World Health Organization, Laerdal, and American Academy of Pediatrics, focus on providing education and practical hands-on skills for health care workers in low resource countries.
