As part of health system redevelopment, RHCI includes a focus on trainings for in-country staff.
Partnering with Midwives on Missions of Service (MOMS; www.moms-midwives.org), 26 Community Health Workers in the Kassama and Sembehun catchment areas of Tikonko Chiefdom participated in a 3 ½ week training held in Kassama starting February 11 and ending in mid March with a community celebration.
MOMS’ mission is to improve maternal and child health and maternity outcomes through education and service. Their mission overlaps with RHCI’s mission. To fulfill their mission, MOMS staff and trainers:
- Prepare women to be problem-solvers for their communities, especially for the pregnant women.
- Train women in the skills and knowledge they need to make changes in the community, educate others, and support local pregnant women, especially with prenatal and postnatal care.
- Advocate for effective maternity care to all women.
MOMS also conducted a training in Tikonko Town in 2015, training 33 Community Health Workers. RHCI is grateful for the opportunity, knowledge and skills that MOMS brings to the Tikonko Chiefdom.
